Burns-Martin Trophy

On Friday the 22nd May was the 4th installment of the Burns-Martin trophy for 2009. The contest was Long Ball. Room 4 started out first and scored 11. Room 8 went out and then had the chance to take the lead but a few unfortunate events and misinterpretations of the rules saw them unable to take the lead and thus leaving the Burns-Martin Trophy with Room 4.

Well done to all competitors as it was a very windy and cold day. In a few weeks time the next installment, number 5, will take place in the form of two challenges of the two classrooms with Room 4 hosting a maths quiz and Room 8 a music quiz.

Grandparents Day

Some grandparents and extended family at Taradale Intermediate's Grandparents Day

On Friday the 15th of May Taradale Intermediate had a school wide Grandparents Day. The point of this day was to give the student's grandparents and extended family the opportunity to come to school and see what they do in class, meet some of their friends and show them around the school.

There was a great turn out and from the feedback so far it was a great success. Well Done from Mr. Burns to all the students of Room 8. I am very proud of the effort that we put in as a class and that was shown by how well the assembly was done and run.

Week Three Group Champions

Week Three Group Champions "The Tree Stumps"

Another big week in Room 8 for week three and the group champions shield. From the start of the week the lead was changing constantly. However, at the end of wednesday there was only two groups that could win the shield. They were the T.M.N.T and the Tree Stumps.

By the end of friday the Tree Stumps had gathered enough points for their group to win the Group Champions Shield. Within the group they were all first time winners so it was nice to see.

Stay tuned to see if they can retain the shield or will they, like all the other groups so far this term, not be able to win back to back.

Italian

In Room 8 this term we are learning Italian. So far we have learnt how to say our names, count to twenty, some basic greetings and even learn some names o animals in Italian.

All of the students have taken a strong interest in this so far and really made an effort to learn new things, which is pleasing to see.

Here is a little bit of Italian for all of you out there.

Buongiorno, Mi Chiamo Signore Burns e Mi Piacere le Mucche.
Good day, my name is Mr. Burns and I like cows.

Weekly Group Champions for Week 2

T.N.T Week 2 Group Champions

In week two the defending champions were T.M.N.T and through out the week they set the pace until Thursday afternoon where, after a strong showing in the Italian lesson, T.N.T pulled into the lead.

After the lead changing a few times over the day on Friday there were three teams still in with a chance heading to the school assembly. They were: The Tree Stumps, T.N.T and T.M.N.T.

Once the class got back from assembly the final decision was made. After a great overall class effort at assembly T.N.T were the Week Two Group Champions.

Congratulations!

Burns-Martin Trophy

The Burns-Martin Trophy, Part Three, took place on Friday the 8th of May in the form of a Kiwi-Quiz contest. Both classes met in Room 8 with three teams of four and the winning class would have the highest overall score when combining the three teams scores.

After the ten questions the classes were surprisingly close, so close in fact that it was a tie! Both classes had scored 24 out of 30.

So Mr. Burns said that there must be a winner and a sudden death question was asked. It was, "What year was the first ever earthquake officially recorded?" To be fair Mr. Burns told the teams that it was between 1800 and 1900.

The actual answer is 1831 in China when the account was carved into bamboo. The best guess from Room 8 was 1836 and the best guess from Room 4 was 1833.

This meant that, "The winners of the Burns-Martin Trophy Part 3 are: ROOM 4!"
When it was announced a huge roar sounded around Room 8 as Room 4 took back the Burns-Martin Trophy with to class and Room 4.

You had to be here to see how much it meant to both teams to win this competition.

Congratulations to Room 4 and Mr. Martin and amasingly close battle which is always pleasing to see.

Room 8 will be looking forward to the next challenge and Part 4 of the Burns-Martin Trophy.

Room 8's Class Motto

The Class Motto for Room 8 is: "Who learns the best and beats the rest? Room 8."

Weekly Group Champions

T.M.N.T Week One Group Champions

In the first week of term two Mr. Burns started up the group competitions again in Room 8. A shield has been introduced as the winning groups award with a picture of the winning group to be taken and placed on the shield for the following week. The group names for the first half of this term are:
- T.M.N.T
- The No Names
- T.N.T
- The Dorks
- Fast and the Furious
- The Tree Stumps

The winning group for the first week of the term was the T.M.N.T. This was interesting for a few reasons. One because two of the members have never won the competition and the other two members are now the most successful weekly champions in Room 8.

Stay posted as to who this weeks cahampions will be come Friday afternoon.

Burns-Martin Trophy

After and EPIC contest on the second last day of term one Room eight and Mr. Burns walked away with the Burns-Martin Trophy. In two days time the next installment of the Burns-Martin Trophy will take place in Room 8 in the form of a quiz. Will Mr. Burns and Room 8 be able to defended the trophy successfully? Or will Mr. Martin and Room 4 be able to win back the trophy. Stay Tuned!

Term 2 Update
